The fact is habits shape our lives. Why is it that some people are more effective than others? Why is it that some people accomplish more? Reach their goals? Soar to greater heights? Get more out of life than other people? Do they just get the “lucky breaks”? Are they just “in the right place at the right time”? Or is there something more? The answer is, effective people develop habits that ineffective people are unwilling to commit to. That’s the difference. Why is it that some Christians are more dynamic than other Christians? Why is it that some Christians seem to grow more, they seem to have more answered prayers, more of God’s blessing on their life. Why is it that God seems to single out some people and seems to be blessing their life more than others? The answer is the same commitment and habits. Effective Christians commit themselves to habits that ineffective Christians are unwilling to commit themselves to. Today we are going to look at three spiritual habits for effective people that I think are absolutely essential for spiritual health.

This week we want to continue talking about this service and how we can make it easy for our friends and family to connect with God. One way that we do that is meeting people where they are and creating an
engaging environment. We want what we sing and teach to be relevant and engaging. It doesn’t do much good if we answer questions no one is asking. So we will do everything possible to create a place where you can not only learn about the love of God, but apply it to your daily lives. When we make the love of God relevant and engaging we make it accessible. We make it so people not only understand what we are talking
about , they want to invite others to be part. So we want to engage culture and use it, to help us share the truth of God’s unconditional love….

For the next few weeks we’re going to talk about some basic commitments you need to make in order to develop your character. I am convinced the first basic commitment for every new believer is to find a local church to be connected in. Therefore, in today’s message I want to deal with the question: “How does one go about choosing a church?” And I want to build today’s message around a list of things you need to check out before you join any church family!

People in our communities hunger for God, but the church is in the way. They expect that the church is for church people. Jesus came for people before there was ever a church. Jesus drew non-believers to himself. He was a people magnet. Sinners loved to be around him. People nothing like Jesus wanted to be with HIM. People from every walk of life flocked to be in his presence. Isn’t that so different than today? We (Mountain Grove Church) think the local church should be just like that. A place where people who are nothing like Jesus flock to and want to explore their fears, doubts, questions in spite of what is going on in their lives. A place where no matter what you are facing… Addiction, Pain, Relational trauma, poor, rich, sick, outcast… ALL ARE WELCOME.

Mountain Grove’s mission is simple. Loving God and Loving others by reaching the lost, restoring the wounded and rising to service. You are sitting in the very first service we are calling NEXT…This service is designed to reach those who are far from Him. Those wounded and hurting who just need to know that Jesus loves them.

Most people who read the first chapter of Matthew or the third chapter of Luke wonder why in the world God would spend so much time saying “begot.” “So and so begot so and so…etc.” But I want to show you that all of that is very important to God’s plan. There is not a single word in this Bible that is extra; that was just included for the sake of more words. Every single word is preciously inspired by the Word of God.

The virgin birth is extremely important. And it is essential that God’s people understand really and truly what happened that night, and to be able to explain to others why it is essential, and why we believe that Jesus Christ was born of a virgin.

Isaiah 9:6, a verse that is often used in the Christmas season. For a child is born to us,a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Today we want to look at the title of Jesus that he would be called an Everlasting Father.

Not too long ago, as is customary this time of the year, the subject of Christmas surfaced. And the statement was made that a certain family did not celebrate Christmas because it was a “pagan” holiday. And that got me to thinking about that statement, because it wasn’t the first time someone had made that statement concerning Christmas. So the thought suddenly occurred to me, “How did the 1st century Christians celebrate Christmas?” Or did they even celebrate the birthday of our Lord Jesus Christ?
