SO YOU THINK YOU CAN BAKE

If you enjoy baking or eating desserts, this is the event for you. There will be an official judging of the desserts, but there will also be a public favorite. So, your opinion will count.
Any and all desserts / sweets are welcomed.

Saturday, April 16, 1-3PM



OFFICIAL RULES

CATEGORIES:

All baked entries must fit one of the four category descriptions.

  • Pies – Both single and double crusts are acceptable. All sweet fillings are acceptable. All pies are to be of the dessert variety; no meat pies.
  • Cakes – All types of cakes and cupcakes are accepted in this category.
  • Cookies – All cookies are accepted in this category.
  • Kitchen sink – If your dessert does not fall in the categories above it fits in this one, everything but the kitchen sink! This may be any type of dessert, including ice cream. The entire finished product must be completely edible.

*Premade box mixes are encouraged to be used as an ingredient and not a stand alone entry.
Three finalists will be selected for each category.

One finalist from each category will win First prize.

Prizes will also be given for second and third place.

Best of Show Prize will be given to the person who raises the most donations in their jar. If you have multiple jars you cannot combine them. Guest will taste your dessert, if they like it they will put coins or paper money in your jar. The more they like your dessert the more money they will put in your jar, increasing your chance to win.


WHO CAN ENTER?

Everyone is welcome to enter the bake off!


HOW DO I ENTER?

Participants may enter any recipe/ it does not need to be an original recipe created by the contestant. Recipes may come from cookbooks, passed down through the generations, magazines, websites, or any other means.

Entries will only be accepted between the hours of 12:30 and 2pm on Saturday, April 16, 2016 and may be submitted by the entrant or by a representative of the contestant in the case of the contestant not able to make it during this time frame.

The entry fee is $5.00 for the first entry and $5.00 for any additional entries.

Entrants will be required to fill out a registration form as well as sign these rules and regulations.

All entrants will be given a number to be used for their dessert entries. A Styrofoam container with contestant’s number will be used to submit desserts.
A jar with the same number will be given to each contestant for people’s choice votes.

**We suggest that you bring enough of your dessert to help promote your dessert, in order to collect the most money. EXAMPLE: if you are bringing a pie, we suggest that you bring at least 3 of the same pies. You don’t want to run out of the product you’re selling.


HOW WILL RECIPES BE JUDGED?

All entries must meet the requirements of the category entered. Recipes not meeting contest entry criteria will be disqualified. Entries will be judged in the following criteria:

  • Appropriate texture
  • Taste
  • Consistency
  • Over all impression

Total possible value of 40 points.


HOW WILL FINALISTS BE SELECTED?

Judges are required to taste test all entries. Each judge will complete a judging sheet which will indicate each entry’s score. Each criterion will require a score of 1 to 10, dependent on that criterion. A combined score will be calculated to indicate the final scoring placement.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I WIN?

Selected finalists will be notified after 1 hour judging period, representing an approximate time of 3 p.m. All contestants are expected to be physically present for the announcement and accept their prize at that time.
Finalists will be photographed which may be used for future promotional materials for the church.

**If you don’t bake or care to enter the bake off, you are still invited to help us raise money by donating directly to the Food Pantry or sampling the desserts and giving to the ones you enjoy the most. You can also help volunteer. Contact Larry Puett at MGC if interested in volunteering.

**All guests will be charged $5.00 at the door as an entry fee. Entrants will be excluded from this charge.

**All Entrants are welcomed to figure out the best way to “market” their dessert. (Sell your recipes) The goal is to raise as much as possible for the Food Pantry.
